The Seattle Seahawks have four free agents at the wide receiver position, headlined by midseason trade acquisition Rashid Shaheed, and it looks like one of their restricted free agent receivers will soon become unrestricted.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Tuesday that fan favorite Jake Bobo, who’s been with the Seahawks since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2023, won’t be tendered. All non-tendered restricted free agents become unrestricted once the league year begins.
This doesn’t mean Bobo won’t return to the Seahawks, but it opens the door a fair bit more to the possibility that he won’t be retained.
As a restricted free agent, Bobo could’ve received a first- or second-round tender or a right of first refusal tender, of which only the last one was ever a real possibility. Had the Seahawks given him a right of first refusal tender, Bobo would’ve had a one-year deal worth $3.52 million, which is more than his previous three seasons worth of salaries put together.
Bobo had a reduced role as a receiver in Seattle’s offense under Klint Kubiak, catching just two passes for 20 yards in 11 regular season games played. He also had a couple of healthy scratches for the first time in his career in addition to a calf injury. However, Bobo had a role as a blocking receiver and when his name was called upon in the NFC Championship against the Los Angeles Rams, he picked one hell of a time to catch his first touchdown of the season.
And to think, he fractured his hand in this game!
We’ll find out soon enough if #MoreBobo is officially #NoMoreBobo. Should Bobo return, it definitely won’t be anything north of $3 million.
The other Seahawks free-agent receivers aside from Shaheed (UFA) and Bobo (soon-to-be UFA) are Cody White (RFA) and Dareke Young (UFA).
