Mississippi Exempts NIL Earnings from Tax

The Mississippi House has passed a bill that would exempt college athletes' Name, Image, and Likeness earnings from state taxation. The legislation aims to provide financial benefits to student-athletes who profit from their personal brands while participating in collegiate sports.

The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. If enacted, Mississippi would join other states in creating a favorable tax environment for college athletes to monetize their NIL opportunities, which became permissible nationwide in 2021 following NCAA rule changes.
