Vollering Wins Tour de France Stage 5

Dutch rider Demi Vollering won the fifth stage of the Tour de France féminin in a sprint finish after a tough mountainous course.

The 140km stage from Mâcon to Belleville-en-Beaujolais featured eight climbs and 2,850 meters of elevation gain. Vollering attacked 30km from the finish at the top of the Col de Durbize, but couldn't shake off yellow jersey holder Marlen Reusser and Katarzyna Niewiadoma on the final climb of Mont Brouilly (3km at 7.7%).

In the sprint finish, Vollering edged out Reusser and Niewiadoma to claim victory, with Reusser retaining her overall lead in the race. sport-newz.biz
