CHL Stars Eligible for NCAA Hockey After Rule Change

The NCAA has officially lifted its ban on Canadian Hockey League players, opening the door for top prospects to compete in college hockey. This shift allows standouts like Gavin McKenna and the four freshmen goaltenders at the Frozen Four to pursue an NCAA title before the NHL.

The NCAA's recent decision to allow CHL players to compete has led to a surge of talent at the Frozen Four. Nearly 20 players with CHL connections are currently on the rosters of Denver, Michigan, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.

Freshmen goalies are leading the charge, with Denver's Johnny Hicks posting a 14-0-1 record and Michigan's Jack Ivankovic recording 25 wins. This historic shift ends a decades-long separation between the leagues that once produced legends like Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby.
