Holmes, Myers lead Mets past Giants 9-0

Clay Holmes and Tobias Myers combined on a three-hitter as the New York Mets defeated the San Francisco Giants 9-0 on Saturday night.

Holmes (2-0) pitched seven innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Myers retired the final six batters for the Mets' first shutout of the season. Mark Vientos had three hits, while Tyrone Taylor hit a pinch three-run homer and drove in four runs.

The Giants' only hits came from Matt Chapman, Jung Hoo Lee and Jerar Encarnacion. San Francisco dropped to 1-5 at home this season. The Mets scored early with help from Giants defensive errors and broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning.
