Blue Jays' Valenzuela debuts with Kirk injured

Brandon Valenzuela makes his MLB debut for the Blue Jays on Easter Sunday with Alejandro Kirk sidelined by injury.

Valenzuela, a 25-year-old catcher from Mexico, was called up from Triple-A Buffalo to fill in for Kirk, who was placed on the injured list. The Blue Jays acquired Valenzuela from the San Diego Padres on July 31, 2025, trading Will Wagner in the deal.

After joining Toronto's Triple-A affiliate, Valenzuela appeared in 26 games, batting .207 with three home runs. While both he and Kirk are from Mexico, there is no known relation between Valenzuela and Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela.
