Brewers Manager Pulls Pocket Tortoise, Not Pancake, in TV Gaffe

Brewers manager Pat Murphy replaced a pocket pancake with a Sulcata tortoise during a televised interview, creating a viral moment.

During a nationally televised Apple TV interview before a Brewers–Royals game, manager Pat Murphy held up a Sulcata tortoise named “Bobby Jr.” after being told “no pocket pancakes” were allowed. The reptile sparked a viral meme and caused a stir among fans and reporters alike.

Because American Airlines has a strict no‑reptile policy, the tortoise stayed behind in Kansas City and is currently housed under a heat lamp in the visiting clubhouse at Kauffman Stadium. The Brewers plan to find a permanent home for Bobby Jr. and will keep him off the team’s travel roster for the season.
