2026 World Cup Playoffs Set to Decide Final Six Spots

The final six World Cup places will be decided this week as European and intercontinental playoffs conclude, completing the 48‑team lineup for the 2026 tournament co‑hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico.

In Madrid, eight European teams will battle for four spots in winner‑take‑all matches: Bosnia‑Herzegovina vs. Italy, Sweden vs. Poland, Kosovo vs. Turkey and Czech Republic vs. Denmark. The winners will fill the remaining European slots, with the Turkey‑Kosovo victor entering Group D alongside the United States, Paraguay and Australia.

Meanwhile, the intercontinental playoff tournament in Mexico will see Congo face Jamaica and Bolivia play Iraq, with the two winners earning the final two World Cup berths. The 2026 edition will feature 48 teams and kick off on June 11 at Azteca Stadium, concluding on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
