The 17-year-old's goal in double overtime of a playoff game sent his Blackstone Valley team to the state championship. Colin was on the ice on Feb. 16 when his father, Robert Dorgan (who also went by Roberta Esposito), opened fire in the stands, killing Colin's mother Rhonda, brother Aidan, and grandfather Gerald.
After the tragedy, Colin's coach Chris Librizzi ensured the team stayed together through workouts and shared meals. The players wore heart patches with initials of Colin's late family members, and Colin rejoined his team two weeks later. "It was the greatest moment of my life!" Colin said after scoring the game-winner with 48 seconds remaining in double overtime.
