Bears-Panthers: Record Week 1 Scoring

Published September 13, 2026 · Updated September 13, 2026 · NBC Sports

The Bears' 59-37 road victory over the Panthers set an NFL record for the highest-scoring Week 1 game in history.

The Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers combined for 96 points on Sunday, breaking the previous Week 1 scoring record of 88 points set in 2018. It was the first time any NFL game ended with a 59-37 score and marked the highest-scoring game for both franchises. noplasticplease.life

While this was a historic scoring display, it wasn't the most points the Bears have ever scored, as they put up 61 points in regular season games during 1965 and 1980, and 73 points in the 1940 NFL championship game.
