Jerod Mayo Returns to Business World

Jerod Mayo has officially left football for a second time, taking a managing director role at private equity firm Fifth Down Capital.

Former New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo has stepped away from football to return to the business world, joining Fifth Down Capital as managing director. Mayo made the announcement via his LinkedIn profile in February 2026. raccoongame.org

The 40-year-old Mayo, a first-round Patriots pick in 2008, previously served as V.P. of business development at Optum between his playing and coaching careers. He returned to coaching in 2019, became head coach after Bill Belichick's departure in 2024, and was let go after a 4-13 season. Mayo could potentially return to coaching in the future.
