Under the qualification pathway, the winner of the Qualifier will book a direct place in the 12-team World Cup. The teams finishing second, third and fourth will advance to the World Cup Super Series, where they will compete for the final berth in the main tournament.

The Qualifier will feature the two lowest-ranked Full Member nations in the ODI rankings, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, along with the top four teams from ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 and four teams emerging from the World Cup Qualifier Playoff.

The Playoff will include the bottom four teams from League 2 and four sides from the Challenge League. The top four teams from that competition will progress to the World Cup Qualifier.

The Challenge League itself comprises 12 teams split into two groups of six, with each group contesting three round-robin tournaments during the qualification cycle. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Playoff.

That is how the plan was made. Get more people on the ground with a knowledge of Olympic sports and make sure all Indian events are covered in real time. It is a clear case of disruption in sports media coverage, and not many believed in the plan when we first implemented it in Birmingham. Hangzhou was another test case, and by then we were convinced it worked. In Paris, it worked like magic. On days when Indian events were taking place simultaneously, we were the only team with people everywhere. Shooting was three hours away from Paris, and we had a dedicated team stationed in Châteauroux for all the action. It meant they were not exhausted by travel and could report in real time.

We followed the same model in Glasgow. If Rohan was at Scotstoun, Trisha was at the SEC, and I was somewhere else. It was also a commitment to bring the culture stories to our viewers, and the overwhelming reaction to our coverage says it all. It was important that we asked the hard questions and were constructively critical when needed.
