Transfert : Jeremy Monga rejoint Manchester City
Manchester City tient sa nouvelle pépite. Le club anglais a officialisé ce samedi l’arrivée de Jeremy Monga, jeune ailier de 17 ans en provenance de Leicester City. L’international anglais des moins de 21 ans s’est engagé pour cinq saisons, jusqu’en juin 2031, et rejoint la City Football Academy avec l’étiquette de l’un des plus grands espoirs du football anglais.
Un prodige formé à Leicester
Jeremy Monga a effectué toute sa formation à Leicester City, qu’il a intégré dès la catégorie des moins de 9 ans. Doté d’une vitesse impressionnante, d’excellentes qualités de dribble, de puissance et d’un réel sens du but, il a rapidement gravi les échelons au sein du club.
À seulement 15 ans, il évoluait déjà avec l’équipe des moins de 21 ans des Foxes. En novembre 2024, à l’âge de 15 ans, trois mois et 22 jours, il est devenu le plus jeune buteur de l’histoire de la Premier League 2 en trouvant le chemin des filets face à Aston Villa. librea.one
Des records précoces chez les Foxes
Malgré son très jeune âge, Monga a rapidement découvert la Premier League. Il a effectué ses débuts dans l’élite anglaise en avril 2025 en entrant en jeu lors de la défaite de Leicester face à Newcastle United (3-0). Cette apparition a fait de lui le deuxième plus jeune joueur de l’histoire à disputer un match de Premier League. Il a ensuite cumulé sept apparitions en championnat au cours de la saison 2024-2025.
La saison suivante, le jeune ailier a poursuivi sa progression. Titularisé pour la première fois avec Leicester lors d’un match de Carabao Cup contre Huddersfield Town en août 2025, il est devenu le plus jeune joueur à débuter une rencontre officielle avec les Foxes.
Quelques jours plus tard, il s’est offert un nouveau record en inscrivant un but face à Preston. À 16 ans et 37 jours, il est devenu le plus jeune buteur de l’histoire du Championship, effaçant des tablettes une marque jusque-là détenue par Jude Bellingham.
« Un rêve devenu réalité »
Jeremy Monga ne cache pas son enthousiasme à l’idée de poursuivre son développement sous les couleurs de Manchester City.
« Quand j’ai appris que Manchester City s’intéressait à moi, j’ai immédiatement compris que c’était le bon choix. Rejoindre un club de ce niveau est un rêve devenu réalité pour n’importe quel jeune joueur. Manchester City est la référence en Angleterre depuis une dizaine d’années et il offre également de vraies opportunités aux joueurs issus de son centre de formation, comme Phil Foden ou Nico O’Reilly. Cela prouve qu’il existe un véritable parcours vers l’équipe première », a déclaré le jeune Anglais.
Le directeur sportif des Citizens, Hugo Viana, s’est également réjoui de cette signature.
« Jeremy est un joueur extrêmement prometteur qui a déjà énormément progressé malgré son jeune âge. À seulement 17 ans, nous sommes convaincus qu’il possède un fort potentiel et que Manchester City représente l’environnement idéal pour poursuivre son développement », a-t-il affirmé.
Manchester City a enfin souhaité la bienvenue à sa nouvelle recrue, en espérant le voir poursuivre son ascension sous les couleurs des Skyblues.

Mngqithi:’Someone blocked my move to Kaizer Chiefs’
Young Africans head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed that Kaizer Chiefs tried to appoint him on more than one occasion.
The 54-year-old coach made the revelation after his unveiling by the Tanzanian giants on Friday. He spoke during an interview with Thabiso Mosia on Radio 2000.
Mngqithi said he held cordial talks with Amakhosi chairman Kaizer Motaung Snr. However, he claimed the move never progressed because someone blocked it.
MANQOBA MNGQITHI OPENS UP ON KAIZER CHIEFS INTEREST
The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach added that the talks never reached the stage of negotiating personal terms. Even so, he said he has no hard feelings and is fully focused on his new job.
Speaking on Radio 2000, Mngqithi insisted the interest from Chiefs was genuine. “Kaizer Chiefs did have interest in me. But someone blocked the move and I know who it is,” said Mngqithi.
“I have had very cordial talks with Chiefs, even with Kaizer Motaung Sn. It is not a lie. But it never reached any fruition because there are people who block these moves.”
He said negative opinions from certain people stopped the deal. “There are people who always find ways to speak negatively about a person. Kaizer Chiefs never got to the point of negotiating terms because someone blocked it.”
NO REGRETS FOR MNGQITHI
Mngqithi also revealed that Kaizer Chiefs wanted him before he joined Mamelodi Sundowns. He believes the club’s interest lasted for several years. However, he accepts that the move never happened.
“I’m fortunate to know that the person who blocked it I am not even worried about. But it’s true there was interest recently,” he continued.
“Kaizer Chiefs even wanted me before I joined Sundowns. I’ve had very cordial talks with senior Kaizer Motaung. I know they have always shown interest in me. But for whatever reason it never happened.”
The experienced coach said he has no regrets. He added that there are many coaching opportunities in football.

Coach Manqoba Mngqithi joins African giants
The 55-year-old Mngqithi replaces caretaker coach Abdihamid Moallin, who guided Young Africans to a record-extending 31st league title after finishing two points ahead of rivals Simba SC.
The South African arrives after spending last season with Golden Arrows following an 11-year spell at Mamelodi Sundowns in various coaching roles.
MANQOBA MNGQITHI SPELLS SOUTH AFRICAN LEADERSHIP IN TANZANIA
The appointment means Tanzania’s two biggest clubs will both be led by South African coaches next season. Steve Barker remains in charge of Simba SC, who won the FA Cup and will join Young Africans in the 2026/27 CAF Champions League.
Mngqithi now faces the challenge of defending the league title while competing on the continental stage as Young Africans aim to make a strong impact in the CAF Champions League.
With Young Africans and Simba SC qualifying for the CAF Champions League, both clubs will be aiming to improve Tanzania’s standing among the continent’s top football nations.
He is regarded as one of South Africa’s most accomplished football coaches. The former schoolteacher began his professional coaching career with Lamontville Golden Arrows in 2007.
The Umzimkhulu-born coach made history in 2009 by guiding Arrows to their first major trophy. His side hammered Ajax Cape Town 6-0 in the MTN8 final. He later had coaching spells with AmaZulu and Chippa United before returning to Golden Arrows in 2012.
Mngqithi joined Mamelodi Sundowns in 2014 as assistant coach to Pitso Mosimane. The pair enjoyed remarkable success over the next six years. Sundowns won several league titles and lifted the CAF Champions League trophy in 2016.
After Mosimane left in 2020, Mngqithi became co-head coach alongside Rhulani Mokwena. They continued the club’s dominance by winning more league titles, the MTN8, and the Nedbank Cup. Mngqithi remained at Sundowns until his departure in late 2024.
He returned to Golden Arrows for a third spell and guided the Durban-based side to a top-eight finish in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season. His performances attracted interest from several clubs, including Kaizer Chiefs, before Amakhosi eventually opted for Fernando Da Cruz.
COACHING CHANGES CONTINUE
Meanwhile, Portuguese coach Pedro Goncalves has been appointed head coach of Moroccan giants FAR Rabat.
He replaces fellow Portuguese coach Alexandre Santos, who left after guiding FAR Rabat to the CAF Champions League final last season, where they lost 2-1 on aggregate to Mamelodi Sundowns. Santos has since taken charge of Kuwait SC.

Les éliminations se sont succédé au fil des décennies : face à l’Uruguay en 1954 (2-4), au Brésil en 1962 (1-3), à l’Allemagne de l’Ouest en 1970 (2-3 après prolongation), à l’Argentine de Diego Maradona en 1986 (1-2), au Brésil en 2002 (1-2), au Portugal en 2006 (0-0, 1-3 aux tirs au but), puis à la France en 2022 (1-2).
Trois qualifications qui ont marqué les esprits
L’Angleterre a toutefois su franchir cet obstacle à trois reprises. En 1966, elle élimine l’Argentine (1-0) avant de décrocher le seul titre mondial de son histoire.
En 1990, elle vient à bout du Cameroun (3-2 après prolongation) pour rejoindre les demi-finales. Enfin, en 2018, elle domine la Suède (2-0) et retrouve le dernier carré pour la première fois depuis 28 ans.
Une nouvelle page à écrire face à la Norvège
Face à la Norvège, l’Angleterre a l’occasion d’améliorer ses statistiques et de confirmer les ambitions de cette génération.
Une victoire lui ouvrirait les portes des demi-finales et renforcerait un peu plus l’espoir de conquérir un deuxième titre mondial, soixante ans après le sacre historique de 1966.

Junior Boks switch up four for semi
Coach Kevin Foote has shuffled his Junior Springbok pack and backline for Monday’s Junior World Championship semi-final against England in Tbilisi.
With the defending champions chasing a spot in the U20s showpiece, Foote has made four changes to the starting XV that beat Wales in their last Pool A match in the Georgian capital.
Up front, Kebotile Maake starts at openside flanker, Luke Cannon takes the blindside berth and Gert Kemp comes in at No 8. Risima Khosa and Vujo Gwiji make way, with the former named among the six forward replacements.

In the backline, Markus Muller returns at outside centre ahead of Samuel Badenhorst, while Luan Giliomee is back at fullback after clearing head injury assessment protocols. Alzeadon Felix drops to the bench for backline cover.
“We’ve made some rotational changes to the squad, mindful that we had an extra day for recovery, which came at the right time after three pool matches in a relatively short period,” Foote said.
“We have selected what we believe is an exciting team and a combination best suited to our game model against a very good England side.”
ICYMI: Junior Bok faces doping ban
England reached the last four unbeaten, winning all three pool matches, matching the Junior Boks’ own record.
“England have shown their quality by winning all three of their pool games,” Foote added.
“They have a strong and successful history in this competition and will be highly motivated for this match. We have prepared well, and now it’s about executing our plan.
“These young men love representing this team and playing for South Africa. We are grateful to represent our country and are excited about the challenge that awaits us on Monday.”
