Western Cape police have opened an inquest after officers found the body of Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams at a property in Cape Town.

SAPS confirms inquest

Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed: “Cape Town Central police registered an inquest for investigation following the discovery of the body of a 25-year-old male on Saturday, 11 July 2026, at 11:06 at a premises in Military Road, Schotsche Kloof,” Van Wyk said.

He added that police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police have not disclosed the cause of death or indicated whether they suspect foul play.

Football mourns Jayden Adams

Earlier on Saturday, Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed Adams’ death in a statement expressing its “heartfelt sorrow” over the loss of the 25-year-old midfielder.

The club extended its condolences to Adams’ family and friends on behalf of chairman Patrice Motsepe, the Motsepe family, the board of directors, technical team, players, management, staff, supporters and the wider “Yellow Nation”.

“We pray that the Almighty God comforts and strengthens the Adams family, his friends and everyone that knew him,” the club said.

Sundowns also appealed to the public to respect the family’s privacy as they mourn.

Adams had recently represented South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, playing in all three of Bafana Bafana’s group-stage matches.

The midfielder first made his name at Stellenbosch FC before earning a move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he helped the club achieve domestic and continental success.

Tributes have continued to pour in from teammates, clubs and supporters as they remember one of South Africa’s brightest football talents.

The Springboks maintained their unbeaten start to this year’s Nations Championship with a thrilling victory over Scotland at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria on Saturday.

South Africa won 42-28 after the scores were tied at 14-all at half-time.

Bonus point win

The Springboks picked a second-straight bonus point for their victory, while Scotland left with a single bonus point for scoring four tries.

South Africa’s six tries came via Embrose Papier, Evan Roos, Elrigh Louw, Damian Willemse, Zach Porthen and Jesse Kriel.

Handre Pollard landed five conversions, while Quan Horn added a conversion of his own.

In next Saturday’s Round 3 action, South Africa will take on Wales at Hollywoodbets Kings Park in Durban at 17:40 while Scotland will welcome Fiji to Murrayfield in Edinburgh at 15:10 (SA time).

Roxane Couasnon quitte l’Arkema Première Ligue et l’OM pour la Seconde et l’ASSE.

L’ASSE, relégué d’Arkema Première Ligue, a dévoilé, ce samedi, une nouvelle recrue par le biais d’un communiqué diffusé sur son site officiel. Les Vertes accueillent la défenseure Roxane Couasnon, en provenance de l’OM où elle a passé quatre saisons. Elle retrouve un championnat qu’elle connaît bien et où elle a disputé 119 matchs et avec une montée dans l’élite en 2025 avec les Marseillaises.

L’an dernier, elle a participé à huit rencontres en Arkema Première Ligue et selon le club « apportera son expérience et toutes ses qualités de footballeuse à l’effectif stéphanois ». Dans le communiqué du club stéphanois, Roxane Couasnon a livré ses premiers mots sur son arrivée dans le Forez. « J’ai hâte de commencer cette nouvelle aventure sous de nouvelles couleurs. Et je ferais tout mon possible pour aider mes coéquipières à replacer le club en Arkema Première Ligue. », a commenté la joueuse de 27 ans
