Golden Globe or Golden Glove? Why Tusker coach is frothing at Nairobi United keeper Oduor

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6, 2026 – Tusker head coach Julien Mette was fuming at Nairobi United goalkeeper Kevin Oduor over his dark art tactics in their FKF Premier League tie at the Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The Frenchman accused the custodian of time-wasting by faking injuries and constantly going down to stop the flow of the game.

“Once a team scores the first goal, their goalkeeper is almost dead. He suicides himself two or three times, he stays on the field. We could have had 15 minutes more to play today. It’s horrible. As a coach, it’s frustrating. Of course, if you’re fans of Nairobi, you’re happy. But as a fan of football, this evening we’re going to see PSG-Bayern. It’s totally a different sport,” Mette said.

Mette described Oduor’s antics as frustrating and an affront to what football should be all about as far as entertainment is concerned.

The tactician warned that such behaviour is a drawback to the progress of the sport in the country, particularly as Kenya readies to host the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in just over a year.

“Please play football. You’re going to host the AFCON next year, guys. Play football. And the referee, at least give a warning to the goalkeeper when he’s faking injury, please. Can we play football in this country, please? I accept to lose, but at least let’s try to play,” the former Rayon Sports tactician lamented.

The brewers were stung by a Muhadjiri Hatikimana long-range strike in the 18th minute, which condemned them to their 13th loss of the season.

Mette conceded that the brewers were somewhat masters of their downfall owing to their lack of technical nous with the ball.

“I’m proud of the players. But as I said, if we score first, it’s a totally different game. They had an opportunity, they score. We have a good opportunity, we don’t score. So we have to blame ourselves,” he said.

Keen to avoid a recurrence of the same, Mette said he will be working to improve the synergy in his side by helping players rectify their individual shortfalls.

“There’s a lot of positive things, but the problem is lack of consistency. But I’m quite disappointed of some individual performance. We need all the players to be involved. That’s the main thing I have to correct in my team,” the coach said.

Tusker, who sit eighth with 41 points, are back in league action on Sunday against relegation candidates Bidco United.

Bloodbath Behind Vitality – FUT and Falcons Shatter the Top Five While Giants Collapse in May

Let’s be clear: nobody is threatening apEX, ZywOo, and the rest of the Vitality camp at the absolute peak of the official Valve standings right now. The squad actually managed to pad their lead, boosting their point total from 2063 at the start of April up to 2081 as we roll into May. They are sitting comfortably on the throne, looking almost entirely untouched by the chaos unfolding just a few steps down the ladder. Natus Vincere manages to retain the runner-up position, even though Aleksib and b1t have been bleeding points over the last month, dropping from a solid 1903 down to 1885.

The New Tier 1 Hierarchy: Top 5 Standings (May 2026)

RankChangeTeamPointsRoster
1Vitality2081apEX, flameZ, mezii, ropz, ZywOo
2Natus Vincere1885Aleksib, b1t, iM, makazze, w0nderful
3+3Falcons1823kyousuke, kyxsan, m0NESY, NiKo, TeSeS
4+8FUT1808cmtry, dem0n, dziugss, Krabeni, lauNX
5+4Spirit1807donk, magixx, sh1ro, tN1R, zont1x

But it is directly beneath this unshakeable top duo where the server is genuinely catching fire. Falcons have finally found their gear, which was honestly long overdue considering the sheer amount of firepower they pack onto the server. m0NESY, NiKo, and the rest of the star-studded roster were sitting in sixth place back in April with 1769 points. Now, they have battered their way past the competition to claim third place with 1823 points. That is a massive statement. At the same time, Spirit has officially woken up. Led by the terrifying duo of donk and sh1ro, they climbed from ninth place in April, where they sat at 1721 points, straight up to fifth place in May with 1807 points. The gap to the top three is now practically non-existent.

The most absurd jump of the month, however, belongs strictly to FUT. Back in April, the team was down in twelfth place with 1619 points, looking like a roster stuck just outside the elite. By the time May rolled around, cmtry, lauNX, and the rest of the lineup had blown past nearly the entire tier 1 landscape, landing in fourth place with a brutal 1808 points. It is a rare show of force that proves form-heavy teams are punishing every single moment of weakness at the top right now.

And that climb comes at a heavy cost for those failing to keep up with the meta. PARIVISION was sitting pretty in third place last month with 1798 points, but they have now crash-landed down in eighth place with 1747 points. FURIA is also feeling the reality of the skill gap; the Brazilian lineup featuring FalleN and KSCERATO plummeted from fourth place and 1781 points down to a highly disappointing tenth place with 1730 points. MOUZ is also bleeding out placements and falling straight out of the top ten entirely. They were hovering at seventh in April, but have nosedived to eleventh place in May, sitting at 1730 points.

It is also worth noting Astralis, who are slowly but surely building genuine momentum. From a tenth-place finish in April, ryu, Staehr, and IGL HooXi have pushed the squad up to sixth place with exactly 1800 points. The MongolZ are keeping the engine running and moved from eighth to seventh place, cementing the fact that they have permanently established themselves in the upper echelon.

Further down the list, we find the legacy orgs with serious structural issues. G2 is struggling hard to break back into the top ten, practically stagnating as they move from eleventh to twelfth place, even though their actual point value slightly increased from 1664 to 1673. FaZe, fielding megastars like broky and karrigan, are still floundering down in twenty-second place, which is only a marginal, unconvincing bump from April’s twenty-sixth place. For Team Liquid, the situation is looking pitch black. EliGE, NAF, and ultimate completely crashed from 40th in April all the way down to 47th now in May.

What we are looking at right now is a total shift at the top, where squads like FUT are refusing to quietly stand in line behind the old legacy giants. The margins from third down to sixth place span a meager 23 points. The scene is set for an absolute dogfight in the coming weeks, and teams caught sleeping at the wheel are going to be punished severely. Vitality and NAVI might hold the top two spots for now, but behind them, safety is a myth.

One for the road for Nairobi United as Hatikimana strike downs Tusker

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6, 2026 – Nairobi United recovered from a disappointing weekend to beat Tusker 1-0 in a midweek FKF Premier League fixture at the Nyayo Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Rwandese Mudjari Hakitimana was Naibois’ destroyer-in-chief, his goal in the 18th minute proving the difference in a tie that could have tipped either way.

Tusker came into the game buoyed by their 2-1 victory over Ulinzi Stars in the FKF Cup quarterfinal over the weekend, a result that keeps them on course for silverware in head coach Julien Mette’s debut season.

On the other hand, Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor’s charges were smarting from their 1-0 loss to KCB in the same competition, which dashed their hopes of defending a title they won against all odds in season past.

However, Hakitimana’s strike ensured they return to winning ways and crucially, continue their impeccable league run from April during which they won thrice and drew once.

The Johnson Sakaja-owned side now sit fourth on the log with 48 points, three less than third-placed Kenya Police who clobbered Murang’a Seal 2-1 at the Police Sacco Stadium – also on Wednesday evening.
